Baptisms at St. Peter's
Baptism is the public declaration of Christian faith. When children are baptised it is done on the basis of their parents, and godparents, faith. The Christian faith is centred on Jesus, God's Son. Christians believe that Jesus shows us the way to have a living relationship with God the Father, and that he comes to us today through his Holy Spirit.
If you would like to have your baby or child baptised at St. Peter's we would be very happy to discuss this with you. We do this by means of an informal and informative discussion around a short DVD presentation and the promises and decisions that you are asked to make publicly as part of the Baptism Service. One or two members of our Church will visit you with this material and invite you to share your reasons for having your child baptised. They will try and answer your questions, will share with you what they have found true from their own experiences and journey of faith, and help you explore your understanding of what Jesus actually said and did.
To start the process of getting your child baptised at St. Peter's:
1. Please contact the Parish Office, either by visiting us or by phone. They will take your details and tell you the name of the person who will contact you.
2. This person will contact you, usually within 2-3 weeks, and arrange to visit you to prepare you for the promises you will make for your child at their baptism. At the end of the session they will discuss possible dates for the baptism of your child.
3. If after this visit, you still wish to pursue the Baptism, you are asked to return to our Church Office the form 'Application for Baptism' that will have been left with you. By returning this form, you are confirming the baptism arrangements.
4. The clergy person who will be taking the baptism service will often contact and meet with you informally before the date of the service.
We conduct Baptisms in our morning services, usually on the 3rd Sunday of the month. Morning Services are usually at 9am and 11.15am in the Church, and 10am at Yateley School.
